Creature Skills

Animal Taming

Taming Information:

  • Taming allows players to control many of the animals and creatures of the world, commanding them to perform such actions as following, guarding and attacking.
  • Your taming skill (along with Animal Lore) determines the chance of taming a given creature and subsequently controlling it.
    • In order to tame a creature you must be standing within two tiles of it with no obstructions, then target it with the skill. Once taming has begun you may stray anywhere up to around four tiles away  from the target though if it loses sight of you the attempt will cease.
  • Sanctum Animal Commands:

  • New command system for summons and tamed creatures:
    • Attack: Follower will attack and pursue target up to perception range from controller. Afterwards will enter Stay mode.
    • Patrol: Player sets a target location for follower. Follower will attack any valid targets within perception range of its master, if it can’t find any, it will talk towards its patrol location, at which point it will roam around that point and look for valid targets to attack (it will stay within perception range of that patrol point however).
    • Guard: Follower will follow its master and attack any valid targets within its perception range following behavior described up top.
    • Come: Follower will walk towards the point where Come was said and then stop at that point (doesn’t follow afterwards).
    • Follow: Follower will follow its master and not attack anything (even if attacked itself).
    • Stay: Follower will stay in place and rotate to look at its master. It will stay in place but attack anything in base contact with it or use any spells or ranged abilities at valid targets in range.
    • Stop: Follower will do nothing and not fight back if attacked.

Taming Skill Gain:

  • You can gain Animal Taming skill from creatures with Min Taming skill above your skill amount up to a maximum of 25 points above it (eg. at 35 skill you can gain from a creature requiring 35 min up until 60 skill).
  • Your chance to tame a creature is your (Taming Skill – their Min Taming needed) * 4%.
  • You need to have both Animal Taming and Animal Lore skill equal to the Min Taming skill of a creature in order to give it commands.

Animal Lore

Animal Lore Information:

  • Animal Lore has increased functionality on Sanctum. You may actively utilize Animal Lore on any animal to learn various attibutes such as strength, dexterity, combat skills and so forth.
  • Animal Lore skill determines the number of follower slots an animal tamer may have. For every 33 skill points invested animal lore will yield an additional control slot.
    • Spirit Speak will also yield additional slots; combining these two will not lead to increased control slots. Players have a minimum of 2 control slots up to a maximum of 5.
      • A player gains an additional control slot for every 33.3 skill beginning at a base of 2 slots at 0 skill.
      • This means 2 slots at 0-33.2 skill; 3 slots at 33.3-66.5 skill; 4 slots at 66.6 to 99.8 skill and 5 slots greater than 99.9 skill.
  • Animal Lore also influences the potency of heals from the veterinary skill.
    • At 60 animal lore and veterinary skill, a player may begin to cure poison from creatures.

    • Place a Shepherd’s Crook in your hand, or your pack.
    • Double-click the crook.
    • Target the animal you wish to herd.
    • Target the location you wish the animal to move toward.
    • If you target yourself the animal will follow you.

If successful, the animal moves in the direction you intend. The Herding system messages are as follows:

    • Which animal do you wish to heard?
    • You don’t seem able to pursuade that to move.
    • Click to where you wish the animal to go.
    • The animal walks to where instructed to.
    • The animal begins to follow you.
