Player Guilds

Sanctum utilizes a modern Ultima Online guild system interface on our shard. You are now able to declare ranks to members and enable them the ability to invite players, declare wars and other guild administrative functions.

Joining a Guild
To be invited into a guild on Sanctum a player must first go to their paperdoll and select the “Guild” button. This will bring up a gump that enables them to accept invitations from guilds.

Check ‘Yes’ and hit apply.

Creating a Guild
To create a guild an unguilded player must own a house to play a guild stone in. They may purchase a guildstone from a provisioner at the cost of 12,450 gold pieces. Simply click the guildstone deed while standing where you would like the guildstone.

Guild Name Restrictions

  • Guild names must be 20 characters or less in length.
  • Guild names cannot contain numbers or special characters. Only alphabetic letters are allowed.
  • Guild names are case sensitive and appear in-game exactly as you type it. You will not be able to edit this information once you hit the OKAY button.
  • Guild Abbreviations must be 4 characters or less, special characters (eg $*%-) are allowed

Dissolving a Guild
A guild is dissolved when the last guild member leaves the guild. The guild name and 3-letter abbreviation will become available to other newly-created guilds immediately.

Ranks and Permissions
There are 5 ranks in a UO guild:

  • Guild Leader – The head of the guild. There is only one Guild Leader.
  • Warlord – The war masters of the guild.
  • Emissary – Emissaries are the guild’s recruiters.
  • Member – Regular guild members with voting privileges.
  • Ronin – Ronin have no voting privileges and no access to containers set to ‘guild’. Often used for probationary members.

Each rank has different abilities, see the Table of Permissions at the bottom of this page.

The Guild Interface
Pressing the guild button in the paperdoll will open the guild interface. This consists of three sub-sections:
My Info, Guild Roster and Diplomacy
.

My Info:
This page displays your Guild Name, Alliance Name, Guild Faction, as well as your personal Guild Title. Use the ‘Show Guild Title’ checkbox to toggle the display of your guild title over your character. If your guild is in an Alliance, you can click the button to the left of the Alliance name to open the Alliance Roster page.

Typing in any guild name or abbreviation and clicking the blue gem box to the right of the search bar will allow you to readily search through names of guilds in particular.

Guild Roster:
This page displays your guild’s roster. You can filter the list using text strings, sort the list by column, as well as view information about specific guild members. The Guild Leader, Warlords and Emissaries can access various guild administrative functions through this page, as well as invite new players into your guild.

Diplomacy:
This page displays a list of all guilds on your shard. You can filter the list using text strings, sort the list by column, as well as view information about specific guilds. Guild Leaders Warlords and Emissaries can access various Diplomacy functions through this page, including managing alliances and wars with other guilds.

Wars and Alliances

Wars
Wars allow open combat between the guilds involved in a formalized hostile relationship. Both sides must agree to the war declaration in order for a state of war to exist.

Alliances
Alliances are managed by the guild designated as the Alliance Leader. Allies will highlight the same color as members of your own guild (a light green color by default).

  • Guilds may not have any wars declared when joining an alliance.
  • A guild may only belong to one alliance at a time.
  • Only the Alliance leader can declare war or surrender.
  • Any guild wishing to declare war on a guild in an Alliance must declare war on the Alliance Leader.
  • If the Alliance Leader accepts the declaration of war, this will result in a war with the entire Alliance.

Breaking Alliances
A guild can remove itself from an alliance at any time; however the guild breaking away will not retain any wars that were declared on the alliance. If the Alliance Leader leaves the alliance, a random guild in the alliance becomes the new leader. Only the Alliance Leader can remove other guilds from the Alliance.

Managing a Guild
Once a guild has been created, the Guild Leader and Emissaries can manage the guild’s affairs. This is done through the Guild Roster and Diplomacy pages.

Guild Roster
The Guild Roster page is a list of everyone in your guild. It displays each guild member’s name, rank, the date they last logged on, and their guild title. Clicking on the arrow buttons located in the upper left-hand corner of the page will allow you to scroll through the list. To view information about a specific guild member, click on the button to the left of their name.
Guild leaders and emissaries can invite people into your guild by pressing the ‘Invite Player’ button at the bottom of the page, and then targeting the player they wish to invite. Members of your guild who are currently online will appear green in the list. Names that appear gray in the list are members who have not logged in for 30 days or longer, they are considered inactive.

Sorting
When the interface is first opened, guild members are sorted by their ‘Last On’ status in descending order – guild members currently online will appear at the top of the list. The list may be sorted by any of the columns by clicking the header button. An arrow will indicate which column is sorted, and whether it is ascending (up arrow) or descending (down arrow). The first time a column is selected, it is sorted in ascending order. Select it again to sort it in descending order instead.

Filtering
Any text typed into the Filter box is used to filter the Roster. For example, if you type “Will”, and press the filter button, the roster will list any member names that contain the string of text “Will”, such as: Will, William, Swill, Super Will, etc.

By default the roster lists all guild members. To display the entire roster after filtering the list, erase any text you have input into the Filter box and press the filter button.

Inviting Players to the Guild
A guild leader or emissary can invite other players into the guild by pressing the ‘Invite Player’ button, and targeting an eligible player. The invited player will be presented with an invitation to your guild. If they accept the invitation, they will immediately be added to the guild roster at the rank of Ronin.

Guild Member Information
Clicking the button next to a guild member’s name in the Guild Roster will open the Guild Member Information page. The guild member’s name, rank, and Guild Title are displayed here, along with several options.

  • Promote – A guild leader or emissary can promote another guild member to a rank just below their own. The Guild Leader can promote another member to Guild Leader rank, thus replacing themselves.
  • Demote – A guild member with the appropriate permissions can demote another guild member that is ranked below them to the next lower rank.
  • Set Guild Title – A guild leader or emissary can set the title of any guild member with a rank lower than their own.
  • Cast Vote For This Member – A guild member can cast their vote for the Guild Leader, either by supporting the current leadership or trying to get someone else to the top.
  • Kick – A guild member with the appropriate permissions can remove a guild member of lower rank from the guild by clicking the Kick button. You always have permission to remove yourself from the guild, unless you are the Guild Leader. The Guild Leader must first promote another player to Guild Leader before they can leave the guild unless the leader is the only member of that guild.

Diplomacy
The Diplomacy page is a list of all guilds on your shard, you can filter and sort it in the same manner as the Guild Roster page. It displays each guild’s name, abbreviation, and the status of your guild’s relationship with them. You can scroll through the list by clicking on the arrow buttons located in the upper left-hand corner of the page. To view information about a specific guild, click on the button to the left of its name. Your own guild will appear green in the list, while other guilds are black. Clicking the Advanced Search button will allow you to only show guilds that have a relationship with your own, guilds awaiting action on the part of your guild, or display all guilds on your shard.

Guild Relationship
Clicking the button next to a guild’s name in the Diplomacy guild list will open the Guild Relationship page. The guild’s information is displayed here, along with several options that change depending on the relationship between the guild displayed and your own.

At Peace
If your guild is at peace with the guild being displayed, the following buttons will appear:

  • Request Alliance – Clicking this button will send an Alliance request to the displayed guild. You will be prompted to enter a name for the proposed alliance. If the guild you are requesting an Alliance with is at war with one or more other guilds, or already a member of an alliance, you will not be able to request an Alliance.
  • Declare War! – Clicking this button will open the ‘Declaration of War’ page. You will be able to enter the number of hours you wish the proposed war to last and/or the number of kills it will take to decide the winner of the proposed war.
  • Cancel – Clicking this button takes you back to the Diplomacy page.

At War
If your guild is at war with the guild being displayed, the following buttons will appear:

  • Surrender – Clicking this button will cause your guild to surrender and the war will end.
  • Cancel – Clicking this button takes you back to the Diplomacy page.

Allied
If your guild is allied with the guild being displayed, the following buttons will appear:

  • Show Alliance Roster – Clicking this button will take you to the Alliance Roster page.
  • Remove Guild from Alliance – If you are the Alliance Leader, clicking this will remove the displayed guild from the Alliance.
  • Promote to Alliance Leader – If you are the Alliance Leader, clicking this will promote the displayed guild to the Alliance Leader, which will replace your guild as the current Alliance Leader.
  • Cancel – Clicking this button takes you back to the Diplomacy page.

Alliance Roster
The Alliance Roster is similar to the Diplomacy page, however it only lists guilds in your Alliance. You can filter, sort and select guilds in your Alliance in the same manner as the Diplomacy page.

Declaring Wars
You can send a declaration of war to another guild by selecting that guild in the Diplomacy page. Clicking the Declare War! button will display the Declaration of War page, where you can set the conditions for the war. The war will only take place if both sides agree to the conditions of the war declaration. The guild receiving the proposal has the option to adjust the conditions of war and send the war declaration proposal back to the originating guild for approval. This process can continue until one guild ends the war negotiations, or both sides agree to a set of conditions.

Conditional Wars
Conditional Wars are fought until the predetermined conditions of the war are met. The possible conditions are:

  • Number of kills – The first guild to reach the agreed upon number of kills is declared the winner. A valid enemy guild kill occurs when a warring guild member receives the killing blow from an enemy guild member, or all significant attackers are in the enemy guild at the time of death.
  • Duration of War – The guild with the most enemy kills in the agreed to time period, in hours, is declared the winner.
  • Both Conditions may be specified. The winner is determined by the condition that is reached first.

Eternal Wars
Any war over 999 hours and with no kill requirements become eternal wars, and do not end until one side surrenders.

Winning a war
When a war is won, all online guild members on both sides (including allies) are notified of the outcome of the war – win, lose or draw.

Surrendering
Surrendering from a war will immediately remove you from the war, causing you to lose regardless of your kill count.

When a winner is determined, the conditions and results of the war will be recorded and displayed on uo.com.

Choosing a new Guild Leader
The Guild Leader voting system allows guild members to determine their Guild Leader. You can cast your vote a new Guild Leader by selecting a guild member on the Guild Roster page.

Guild Leader voting details and restrictions:

  • Guild members do not have to vote for anyone, but they are still counted towards the total number of votes in the guild. Voting for no one is effectively voting for the current Guild Leader.
  • Guild members cannot vote for an inactive player.
  • Guild members cannot vote for the current Guild Leader.
  • Whenever an active guild member’s vote becomes illegal, their vote defaults to none.
  • If a guild member becomes inactive, their vote is no longer valid, nor are they counted towards the total number of votes when determining a majority.
  • Votes are not known to anyone but the individual guild member. The voting tally is also not known to anyone through the guild interface itself – though they can always tally it by asking the other guild members and adding it up themselves.
  • Guild members may change their vote any number of times.
  • Who you are voting for is indicated by an asterisk ( * ) after that guild member’s name. For eYesample, if you are voting for Bob, you would see Bob’s name listed as “Bob *” in the guild roster.
  • When a guild member other than the current Guild Leader achieves a 2/3 majority of the votes, they will replace the current Guild Leader.
  • If a Guild Leader deletes their character, the guild member with the most votes becomes the new Guild Leader. In the case of a tie, a winner will be selected randomly.
  • If a Guild Leader is voted out of their position, they are demoted to the rank of Member.
